Library Summer Reading Programs: Not Just for Kids Anymore
Summer reading programs for kids and teens are a huge part of public library programming across the United States. But did you know that many libraries offer summer reading programs for adults as well? Participation varies between libraries, but adult reading programs have become more popular in past years. Like reading programs for children, each library has a different way for patrons to join in. Most libraries offer their readers small incentives like tote bags, mugs, and free books for participation. Other libraries might also offer raffle prizes such as gift cards to local businesses or e-readers. Either way, adult reading programs are a fun way to join in your library community and get a little something extra after you’ve finished your beach read.
Most libraries use the yearly themes decided on by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) for their reading programs. The adult theme this year is Exercise Your Mind. Read! which focuses on fitness, health, and overall well-being. In addition to reading programs, many libraries will be offering free programs on nutrition, exercise, and other topics related to health and wellness.
So, don’t let the kids have all the fun at the library this summer. Head over to see what your local library has to offer for adults. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
