BTOP Grant Computer Training for Job Seekers Begins in Mercer County

Computer training classes to help job seekers improve their computer and job search skills under the NJ State Library’s $5.1 million Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP) grant are underway in Mercer County at the libraries in Lawrenceville, Hightstown and Princeton. The classes are offered through Mercer County Community College and focus on the basic computer skills needed by every job applicant to make them more confident and self sufficient.

South Jersey Works - Employment Assistance Online

South Jersey Works is a new initiative for job seekers made available by a grant awarded to the NJ Library Association from the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s program called Project Connect. The objective of Project Connect is to “expand the reach of the One-Stop Career Centers to underserved populations by providing guided, self-service venues complementary to and in concert with the full-service offerings at the existing One-Stop Career Centers.”

Partners in SouthJersey Works currently include the six county library systems in South Jersey (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, and Gloucester), the InfoLink Regional Library Cooperative, the Department of Labor, and the One-Stop Career Centers in the area.

Job & Career Accelerator

As part of a grant received by the NJ State Library, libraries across the state are proud to be able to provide all of our patrons with access to the LearningExpress Job and Career Accelerator. This electronic resource is a comprehensive and easy-to-use job search application that integrates each part of the job search process in one place. You will have the ability to use interactive wizards to guide you through each step of the search process from recommending occupations, to fetching up to the minute job postings based on your career preferences.

Further, because it is connected to the LearningExpress Library, you will also have access to skill improvement courses and occupational practice tests based on your work preferences and goals. Additional features of this tool include:

- Exploration of more than 1000 detailed occupational profiles with typical wage information, activites, responsibilties, and requirements

- Occupation Matcher assessment tool

- Ability to create professional and tailored resumes and cover letters

- Resources to improve interviewing and networking skills

-Tips, advice and checklists for more effective job searching

- Ability to track your entire job search progress
